It was probably too early in the process, right? There's a whole bunch of requirements that were probably built into the staging system. Even though they had sort of said that they'd shut down the engines, they were still exhaust going on. So maybe they just couldn't physically separate it because it's being pushed against all that time. But with a certain amount of velocity, I am pretty surprised that they weren't able to.
