The Role of Hydrothermal Vents in Proton Metabolism

The Krebs cycle is a core metabolic pathway that cells use to release energy from organic molecules. It produces molecules needed for other chemical reactions and some precursors to amino acids. Some components of the Krebs cycle may have originated from non-living processes around hydrothermal vents. That's another way of saying that metabolism came first in the origin of life.
