When we hear that some one famous, or someone we respected or knew personally, has been accused of something terrible, does our attention immediately go to the victims of that terrible thing they did? Or does our attention immediate go to what about them? Was it a wrongful accusation? Are they being treated fairly? There's no right or wrong here. In some sense, we can all learn to sympathize across the board a little bit better than wed. But this underlying issue of what we pay attention to, what matters to us is crucially important part of being more rational and understanding the world better.
