How to Deal With a Blocking System Call?

The blocking problem is basically the hououthing problem at some level. The one of the challenges with systems that work well until they don't hit a nonlinear response time where you get this all sudden. And then also a very subtle change in implementation can completely change behavior, and I think this kind of gets to something that I am not in love with about systems.
