The History of Indo European Languages
english has lost most of its inflections. In order to simplify and facilitate communication between these speakers, the inflecions were gradually dropped altogether. A single word can now be used in many different contexts. We'll look at this process in much more detail when we get to the period of old english. The next step in our story is to determine who the original indo europeans were, and to figure out how they migrated from their homeland to the various places where specific Indo-European languages are spoken today.
