The Importance of Jargon in the Social Sciences

If jargon is actually imprecise if it does the opposite of what it's supposed to do then why would people use it? One reason may be that when you've been trained in the use of certain concepts it is easier to use those concepts unthinkingly and try and make precise exactly what you mean. The academic world mirrors the world outside we live in a time where there's an ideology of competition and self-promotion, says Michael Billig.
