The Culture of Saving and Storing Wealth in Gold and Silver

Is there a big culture of saving or storing your wealth in like gold or silver? Like in India and China, that's pretty big. They pass their wealth down through like jewelry and things like that. If people like my wife, she had Arabic language tutor who, yeah, gold was her thing. And it was kind of a status.
