We're Trying to Build a More Perfect Union

The idea of having a good social safety net and a multi racial democracy all at once, you don't see it a lot of places. And by the way, the countries that we can look to that do have really great social safety nets, pretty white. That is not consensus in France and Germany, as you know. To me, that feels both more empathetic about what's going on and why those people are flaring up the way they are.
