Why Are You Here?

I grew up in the church, but my parents divorced when I was eight years old. My mom would move from church to church looking for a place where she felt like she could fit without having to be in an age-graded married people's class. And so I found in my early years of adulthood that I had sat in these seats and listened to someone stand up here holding the same book and teaching it in very different ways. That was a concern to me, because what I didn't have was firsthand knowledge of this text.
