The Importance of Reason in Zen Buddhism

In some Zen traditions, it's more violent than that. They actually hit you with paddles and there's at least intellectual violence. The Kaun puzzle is a deliberately irrational puzzle, but you have to solve. And there's no solution. What does the sound of one hand clapping? Define the indefinable Buddha. How do you get a goose out of a bottle without killing the goose or breaking the bottle? No answer to that.
