The myths of the Babylonian world were meant to explain why human beings are so violent. But in that context, consider what Genesis 1 is saying: God created serenely and without any effort. And if we have all of that in the background, then when we move to John, the Gospel of John, it's helpful and important to remember that these two are a particular genre.
