i think it's really useful to try and understand what's going on. To understand why people are doing things is not to say, and it's perfectly reasonable for them to do this, or i approve of this. There's a real danger, i think, about the kind of perverse incentive, or counter productive in forms of engagement whereby if you stand up and say, here's the evidence and arguments as to why you're wrong,. that simply plays into the discourse of an out of touch, liberal, self serving elite who don't care about people.
