The Rise of Black Dolls
Black children often choose to play with later dolls, suggesting that by the time they had reached nursery school, these kids had already noticed society's racist standards of beauty. Dr. Tony Sturdevant recreated a small-scale version of the 1930s study in 2019 and actually found that pre-Kindergartener still rejected the black dolls in favor of the white ones. She also noted gender as a persisting problem with doll play. Yes, representation is important, but just making sure something available isn't going to solve the problem.
