The Black Death and the Pneumatic Plague
The plague doctor outfits and mask, i do not believe, were introduced until later in the seventeenth century. Some disagreement on how much it was actually used, but it certainly would not have been used during the black death itself. The idea being thati'syouknow, to lift garments, but also perhaps to distance yourself from some one else.
