The Importance of Maternal Health in the Cuban Revolution

The Cuban Revolution has made maternal health and reproductive health a real priority. Women have had access to abortion more or less upon demand ever since the mid 1960s. There was always a lot of emphasis on women's uplift in Cuba, but not changing men. The revolutionary leadership feared that trying to change men would either generate some pushback from men or somehow introduce divisions between women and men.
