Late antique Christianity is very much being formed by what we call patristic text. It's about bishops trying to say actually Christianity should outstrip and outrank all your other social obligations. You've got Epicurean withdrawal, you've got scenic anti-civilised behaviour. But also you can find quieter moments where forms of tension are being felt around.
