The Battle of Bunker Hill
The Americans can't claim victory for most of their encounters with the British, but they often really stymied grander British plans and stop them from advancing. And I think you can see this in one of my favorite examples, which is in June 1775 at the Battle of Bunker Hill. It's a remarkable victory, and it's remarkable how many New England militiamen came out of the woods to participate. But it didn't win the war for us by any means.
