The Mirror Image of the Architecture of Sleep
Normally when we wake up, there's a gentler transition. We ascend from those deeper stages of sleep through lighter stages and eventually to waking or rim to waking. That's an easier transition to make because the activity in our brains is closer to waking activity than it is in deep stages of sleep. So falling asleep can be stepped down from our active, busy, stressful life experience. If you're truly being threatened, the last thing we want is for you to nod off or fall asleep.
