The fundamentalist adhere to a common cross-denominational creed, which coincides roughly with classical Reformation Protestantism. As a rule, they claim no exclusive authority for any denomination or church. Evangelicalism arose in the 18th century, mainly in Britain and America. The central Reformation doctrine is that man is saved or justified by faith alone.
