The Efficient Cause
The word itself is first used in philosophy or Aristotle's idea of the four causes. As efficiency came to be understood as a divine property it began to encompass other qualities attributed to God, including simplicity and foresight. In the mid-1700s, the Industrial Revolution was underway in England. New machines and processes were being developed to make production of goods like cloth and iron faster and easier.
