Arguments for and Against Long Termism

There is a strong argument for long termism taken in itself. How strong the argument is clearly does depend on this population issue question. So how great a loss it is if you think that vast numbers of people will never be born and will never experience good lives because of an extinction event before they're born? I would have to say, yeah, but I'm quite uncertain about that. But I do have concerns about knowing what we can do to reduce extinction risk. And obviously those concerns vary with the nature of the risk like asteroid collision.
