The Relationship Between Architecture and Land
The market works by modifying our desires. When an area reflects these desires back at us, and it can be accessed through spending power, an area becomes desirable. It is the value we attribute to artists art communities of color that is as important as the low rents of the land which attracts them there in the first place. This gets even more messy because it is those communities who are the first to be violently displaced and traumatized when the land increases. The relationship between architecture and land is unavoidable. Buildings need foundations in the ground. And as we have established, this ground, or this land, is governed by a land system driven by these global financial forces.
