Back to the Future was released on July 3rd, 1985 and was an instant hit. It stayed number one for an astonishing 13 weeks and would surpass the juggernaut that we're going to discuss in a second. Beverly Hills Cop could have been even more successful as it came out in late 1984 but it really took off in 1985. When people say they're all time favorite 1980s movie, Goonies is often at the top of the list.
