The Rondo Heat Battery

The Rondo heat battery uses nitrate salts, which melt at around 250 degrees. The technology has been used by the solar industry since the 1980s. It's stable up to about 600 C and so you can have a big tank of cold salt - it looks like a transparent liquid, but stay away from it. And a tank of hot salt and you heat by pumping from one to the other and pull the heat out going the other way.
