The Importance of Stress in Childbirth
Stress is an evolutionary response. The fact that we still have it after millions of years of human evolution indicates that it plays a role, in fact, in the process of childbirth. In order for labor to progress, contractions of the servix have to occur. And if there's no lactic acid available to open up the servix, the baby's head can't come out. So when we teach women vadic meditation, we teach them that the moment they start contracting, they have to stop meditating. If they meditate through the contractions, they'll deplete the edrenal reaction which will deplete the stress chemistry necessary to contract the cervical muscle and the labor
