The Expression Par for the Course

The expression par in golf is the amount of hits or strikes of the ball that you should make to get the ball into the hole. Par for the course means it's normal, it's typical, or to be expected. For example, we're not getting a rise in salary this year. That's just par for the course of this company. They never do anything nice for the workers. So quite often we said, like, yeah, normal. Yeah, I expected that to show that I'm annoyed, that it's always the same. To be expected, no variation from the norm.
