In the history of modern science, there is no other topic on which countries have come together and agreed to publish a report with their names on it. These are reports of such length and depth that they play a role in all kinds of things big and small. One clear example is an IPCC report that was published in 2018. It asked scientists to tell the world what needs to be done to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius. The scale of the problem is massive, already the IPCC says that 3 billion people are highly vulnerable to climate impacts.
