The Vikings relied on a strong oral tradition, stories and legends that would be passed down verbally from generation to generation. The sagas had been passed down orally for hundreds of years before finally being written down in the 13th and 14th centuries. They are often a mix of truth and myth, and we just have to figure out what is the truth and what is the myth.
