Eclipse RCP: The Future of Application Servers
A lot of these applications were just fat clients so you would have no server or job or back end. I thought okay there's no way that we can do a client server here because this is hard to explain but what I wanted to have is all entities attached in the persistence and then the user could just work with them. The save button was basically commit so all user changes were stored immediately in the database. We had also batch jobs so if the entity has changed we could show what changed in real time. But if you perform the the batch job on the server you have to communicate back and back then web sockets whatever it is far more complicated.
