The Benefits of Positive Pressure Ventilation for Tracheal Intubation Procedures
The prepare to trial was a multi-center parallel group randomized trial comparing fluid bolus versus no fluid bolus among critically ill adults receiving positive pressure ventilation during intubation. Dr. John Casey will walk you through the methods of the prepare to trial. We observed an apparent benefit from fluid bolus provision in patients who were given noninvasive ventilation or bag mask ventilation during the tracheal intubation procedure. This has a physiologic plausibility and seems like it might be helpful, but doesn't appear overall to be beneficial.
