The UK's £140m Deal to House Asylum Seekers in Rwanda Is a Tolerant and Compassionate Haven
Until at least 2027 Britain gets to send several hundred people a year to Rwanda for processing asylum and resettlement. Since it was announced nearly a year ago, not a single plane has taken off with an asylum seeker on board because of legal wrangling in the UK High Court. But that hasn't stopped this government's investment in the plan. I've been incredibly impressed with my visit today both to meet local innovators and entrepreneurs and to see the job creation and the wealth creation going on there. The walls in her apartment are lined with books about Africa as well as masks and wooden sculptures. She's collected them all over her 30 years travelling back and forth to the continent as a writer and reporter
