Apple Bonjour is basically the MDNS implementation of things. If you don't have a network and you still want to communicate with the networking, you can use this thing that if you ever seen 169.254 slash 16, that's called the link local. This is the goal of zero conf where even if you can connect these machines together, right? You can talk to each other without zero configuration.
