What Are You Doing in a Vegetative State?
Before some time ago, there as a popular understanding within the noro scientific community that vegetative state whas basically nothing was going on. It actually turns out, i would say, ina ten, 15 years of a using brain imagin to look directly into the brain and see what's happening, actual told us that a lot can be going on in a brain. A lot of activity, a lot of cognitive faculties can remain even in the absence of consciousness. For example, if you were sleeping, or if a patient were in a vegetative state, you might be able to play a sound and see that the brain is reacting. So the brain might respond appropriately to sounds from the environment
