Mickey Dora is credited by many with being the sort of originator of localism. Localism is a phenomenon that some people, the self nominated locals, treat strangers with hostility because those people are likely to get in their way. There have been many ugly instances of locals defending their turf with actual violence. For decades in Palis Verdes down the coast from Malibu, the local bayboys harassed outsiders so badly throwing rocks and mocking them with blackface.
