How to Get Mitochondrial DNA From a Silk Shawl

Stains on the shawl were determined to be both semen and blood. You manage to extract DNA from them, specifically mitochondrial DNA which is passed down through the maternal line. The stains are actually contemporaneous with the murders and hadn't been applied at any stage in the last 120 years. But if you have stains which are forcing a certain way on the forensic lights, then you can start to think that these are quite hard to forge.
