Both of my wife's parents passed away when she was in her early twenties. This left a massive void at our wedding, and so we asked an uncle to give the father of the bride's speech as well. My uncle memorized his speech off by heart so that he could deliver it perfectly. There were some tears from a fair few people when he delivered it. I look up to him as my inspiration for when I might need to do the same for my daughter. Nothing quite like the correct balance of respect, sentiment, humour in a speech.
