Dostoyevsky's work in particular at least, is wrestling with ex essentialism. One way of thinking about it is that we are placed into the world and have to make decisions. And you can create your own meaning out of that through radically free acts. The rejection of nihilism therefore guarantees that you should be like religious d god.
