The Rise of the State in Athens
The downfall of Athens was not caused by democracy, as the European lickspital historians assert to flatter their princes, but by slavery. The rise of the state among the Athenians is a particularly typical example of the formation of a state. It shows a very highly developed form of state, the Democratic Republic, arising directly out of a genteel society.
