The CCP Wins Without a Fight Over Taiwan
A lot of the people making these arguments in the U.S. are doing it with the audience in mind in D.C. and maybe the American public, but they're not really thinking much about the Taiwanese voters themselves. They have this very kind of two-dimensional view of how rhetoric about the threat will affect the Taiwanese electorate. I think Xi Jinping has other concerns. He doesn't need Taiwan to stay in power. In fact, moving on Taiwan could potentially threaten his grip on power if it doesn't go down. And so the status quo for Xi Jinping and the CCP is not an existential threat. The US's one China policy has actually done a good job of keeping the peace
