CHAPTER

The Leaven of the Pharisees

"Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy," Jesus told his disciples. "Whatsoever you've spoken in darkness, it shall be heard in the light" The Bible says that God will reveal every ingredient to those who bake a little hypocrisy into their bread.

Now in the midst of that, he began to sand onto his disciples, first of all, be where ye of the leaven of the Pharisees. Now we saw that before and we talked about it in terms of epistemology, that are the Pharisees sprinkling in some kind of restricted empiricism, that I need science, I need absolute proof. That is one form of Phariseic leaven, but he explains this one in different terms. Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy, for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, neither hid that shall not be known. Now to bake a little hypocrisy into your bread, not knowing that God will someday expose every ingredient. Now to turn around the box and see the list, it is in the caloric intake, or in this case the amount of hypocrisy that sometimes goes into people's so-called righteousness is holier than now, and I'm guarding the law. Well, are you? Or are you looking for legal loopholes or ways to appear to be more righteous than you really are? That kind of leaven, oh it does make the bread rise in people's estimation. Look how high and mighty these scribes and Pharisees are. And yet that yeast, that leaven also makes that bread decay, to see a sense of moldy spirituality, that it's the flash in the pan, it's the plant on the stony ground that springs up, but then quickly withers. This bread does rise, but it does mold as well. So yes, beware of the hypocrisy in the leaven of the Pharisees. In verse 3 through 5, therefore, whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light. He's building on what he just said. Anything covered, which is what a hypocrite wants to do, cover the real self, right? A hypocrite is someone that wears a mask, they don't want you to see the real face behind it. He just said in verse 2, it's going to be revealed. You can't hide it, it's going to be known. In verse 3, he's building on it. You think it's in the dark. Oh no, the light of the world is going to shine that spotlight upon the things that you want to keep hidden. Whatsoever you've spoken in darkness, it shall be heard in the light.
