How I Got My Start in the Indie Publishing Industry
I was originally traditionally published by Macmillan in 2000 with a couple of books. And I thought this was kind of the start of this career. No one was going to give me a third book, and so I kind of gave up. For six or seven years, I didn't do anything until some friends of mine said that they'd just published their own stuff digitally. They'd actually made some money, not much, but some. That was the moment I decided it was safe to kind of cut ties and go for it. It's been the most sensible and best decision I've made in my professional life.
