Michelle Holder is an associate professor of economics at City University of New York. She says black women face several hurdles when it comes to achieving the soft life. Slavery, Jim Crow and 400 years of structural racism have historically put many of these material joys out of reach. It's great to dream, but be warned, those dreams may not actually be that easy to achieve.
