The Importance of Conscious Suffering
I was thinking today, are you familiar with Gertchef and his work, this kind of Armenian mystic from the 1920s? And he focuses very much on conscious suffering. I noticed that the tendency of almost a more feminine spirituality would be to eroticism. A tendency toward masculine, masculine spirituality tends to be looking at your suffering and starting with the crisis. So it's almost like coming at the same thing from a different point of view. The worst kind of suffering is there's actual suffering and pain, and then there's the pain of not being engaged in the world.
