Humanity Is a Creature in the Balance

Alicia Arnow was one of three women held captive by the lighthouse keeper on Clipperton Island. She and her fellow survivors were freed when a whaler carrying an American gunship came to their rescue. The men took them back to the island, where they discovered the man who had kept them prisoner dead or alive. Alicia says that some people are monsters deep in their core, but she also advocates a very risky balance: Sometimes we have to become the monster in order to defeat it, and then hope that we can change back.
