In general, when people have any injury, but especially low back issues, oftentimes load is what they don't handle well. The other thing that you can modify pretty easily is going to be some of the biomechanics. Olympic weight lifter is much more upright when they squat and think about a front squat. So if you just tell someone the best way to squat is upright, because it's less stress in the spine, it's like, well, you're just putting more stress on the knees.
