Jeffrey Toobin: In the study of last things at end times, are you ready? You can boil eschatologies in the different views that exist amongst wonderful men and women of God down to essentially two eschatologies. Are you ready? Number one, you've got eschatologies of historic pessimism, historic pessimism. Now, notice this. Historic pessimism does not mean that Christians that hold to a view of, say, a secret rapture and an antichrist figure. It does not mean they don't believe that Jesus is ultimately victorious at the end of history. But there will be times of defeat where Jesus's going to rescue a church which has been defeated
