Is Epstein-Barr Virus a Risk Factor for MS?
The Epstein-Barr virus seems to have a role in patients developing MS. Other things that can play a role are cigarette smoking and vitamin D deficiency. There is a genetic tendency, but it's different to some diseases that pass on one generation to the next. The risk if you have MS of a first degree relative having MS is about 5%. So 95% chance they won't get it.
