A margin of safety is all about trying to protect yourself from downside. It can take a few different forms, such as paying less than what you think it's worth. Buffett and Munger have been doing their entire career by buying a dollar for 50 cents. There are businesses like an Amazon or an Apple where the top combo could have paid almost anything.
