I think my favorite story in the book is I got really into Jimmy Carter when I was writing it. He's this sort of like hot upstart kid who goes to the Naval Academy. And then he wants to get in the nuclear submarine service, which at that time you had to be interviewed by a guy named Admiral Rickover. The question "Did you always do your best?" haunts him for the rest of his life.
