The prosecution is trying to show that it was Ralph and not Jackson who knew how things worked at smoking Joe's. If your biggest witness is a career criminal, there are a lot of things you have to deal with, right? Not only credibility, but likability, like why would we like someone who commits crimes for a living? So this may have been as innocuous as trying to humanize and make Jackson likable to the jury.
